The research activity involves the realization of an innovative sensor in stand-alone units to be installed in specific locations of the drinking water distribution network, in order to monitor the development of biofilm and limestone on the inner surface of the pipes. The collected data, together with the available quality data already monitored by conventional sensors, will be used to calibrate a model describing the water quality in the network, to be used to define intervention scenarios, aimed at managing possible alterations in water quality. The calibrated model will then be validated in field, to understand its effective applicability and areas for improvement. The activity will be carried out in collaboration with the network managers identifying significant case studies.
