| The Director of Conservation oversees all aspects of conservation projects, science, fundraising, internal, external, and community relations for the Mongolia Country Program. Serves as the focal contact to government agencies, other conservation organizations, foundations and the academic community on conservation related matters. |
| ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
| The Director of Conservation provides leadership and support for TNC’s Mongolia Program conservation strategy, conservation projects, and establishes overall conservation priorities for Mongolia. Collaborates with internal and external partners to advance conservation goals of the program. - Identifies opportunities and defines conservation priorities for TNC’s Mongolia country program;
- Leads the program’s conservation strategy at local, regional, and national scales, providing direction and guidance in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of both the Mongolia conservation strategy and its associated project portfolio;
- Periodically provides strategic analysis and updates to leadership, reports out on conservation strategy progress, and revises conservation strategies and tactics as necessary;
- Develops and manages budgets for conservation strategies;
- Ensures the conservation strategy achieves desired conservation goal and outcomes;
- Builds strategic, scientific, and technical capacity of the program and in the field;
- Develops key partnerships with public & private organizations in order to identify and resolve technical issues and to widely communicate solutions and best practices;
- Communicates successes, lessons and other essential messages internally and externally to leverage conservation outcomes;
- Develops innovative scientific methods, analyses, tools, and frameworks to address the challenges in sustainable natural resource management;
- Plans, implements and coordinates a comprehensive government relations program to affect government policy and legislation for enabling conservation conditions;
- Engages local community support for local conservation efforts;
- Implements innovative solutions with government and other partners to advance conservation outcomes;
- Identifies opportunities, directs and support efforts to secure public funding for the Mongolia Conservation Strategy.
- Develops and implements public and private fundraising plans.

| RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE |
| - Serve as conservation point of contact regarding internal and external communications and marketing;
- Participates in wider TNC conservation-oriented meetings and workshops to represent the Mongolia Country Program’s conservation work as interest and opportunity allows;
- Demonstrates leadership in the program and serves as a role model in upholding the organizational values;
- Actively participates and contributes as a member of the Leadership Team, and assists with overall management of the Mongolia Program;
- Prepares and manages public grants and contracts, including multi- and bi-lateral grants and contracts;
- Assist with all other tasks and projects as directed by management.
- Manage multi-disciplinary professional staff, with responsibility for performance management, training and career development. Establishes clear directions and set stretch objectives.
- Ensures compliance with TNC’s SoPs related to engaging with Public Sector Entities.
- Ensures optimal use of TNC’s management information systems for the conservation program (HUB) and for the management of external relationships with Public Sector Entities (BBCRM).
- May work in variable weather conditions, at remote locations, on difficult and hazardous terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.
- Frequently makes independent decision based on analysis, experience, and context.

| MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS |
| - BA/BS degree and 7 years’ experience in conservation practice or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Fundraising experience, including identifying donor prospects and donor cultivation
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including managing finances and coordinating the work of other professionals and partners.
- Supervisory experience, including motivating, leading, setting objectives and managing performance.
- Experience in partnership development with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
- Experience negotiating.
