Overview

The RTI University Collaboration Office seeks a prospect for the Water Systems and Services Internship within the International Development Group (IDG). 

This internship is a contract position. The employment contract is administered by Greene Resources Powered by Array, RTI’s supplemental staffing partner. 

RTI’s Sustainable Growth & Resilience (SG&R) technical unit within the International Development Group brings together RTI experts and capabilities across food security, agriculture, energy, environment, water, governance, and economic opportunity. SG&R will leverage RTI’s experience designing and delivering multisectoral programming and technical solutions to respond to climate change, build resilience, and promote economic growth around the world. SG&R’s Water portfolio has delivered innovative, breakthrough solutions in key development sectors globally, including water sector governance, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, water resources management, community engagement, urban resilience, and institutional capacity building.

The internship will support the Water team on numerous activating regarding business development, project implementation, and thought leadership. As RTI is preparing for multiple solicitations from USAID, the intern may be requested to assist proposal teams with preparations for these solicitations by researching local organizations in countries of interested, reviewing documentation on past programs, conducting research on lessons learned and best practices, and researching new concepts, tools, and trends in the water and urban resiliency sectors. The intern may be requested to assist with reviewing, editing, and drafting communication material to assist with the website update and help promote RTI’s work in AWE.

Learning Objectives:

  • Develop a deep understanding of donor trends in the water sector and the state of knowledge on nature-based solutions
  • Collaborate with a global team on projects while also working independently over the summer on a research project.
  • Build deep understanding of the international development sector by supporting efforts across the business cycle from business development to project management.

Responsibilities

  • Contributing to the Water team’s thinking on how to incorporate nature base solutions into existing and future projects.
  • Conducting independent research on local organizations and activities in the water sector in target countries.
  • Collaborating with proposal teams to develop strategies for new projects and proposals
  • Assisting with the team’s administrative operations

Additional Information

This virtual paid internship will take place from June 2023 through September 2023. The internship requires a minimum commitment of 40 hours per week. Hours are flexible during business hours, Monday through Friday. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate program in the international development, international relations, environmental management, natural resources management, or related field
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in another language, such as Spanish or French, desired
