Research Fellow in Urban Ecohydrology
Duties and Responsibilities
UCL Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (CEGE), is a multidisciplinary department with a long tradition of excellence in teaching and research. We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented Research Fellow to join the new Urban Ecohydrology Lab at UCL which aims to combine concepts of hydrology, ecology, meteorology, urban planning, public health and complexity science to better understand the interactions between human and natural systems and guide the design of greener, more sustainable and inclusive cities.
The Research Fellow in Urban Ecohydrology will be responsible for carrying out top-quality research in the field of urban ecohydrology, land-atmosphere interactions and/or coupled socio-ecological dynamics in urban environments. The postholder will interface with collaborators from multiple disciplines (ecology, hydrology, climate, urban planning) and assist the work of a PhD student appointed in the Lab. The postholder will also lead on, and contribute to, publications for high-impact factor journals and to grant proposals for various funding bodies, and to departmental research, teaching and knowledge transfer activities as required.
The appointment is available from 1 January 2020 and is funded in the first instance until 31 December 2020.
The successful candidate will hold a PhD degree in the field of Ecohydrology, Hydrology, Ecology, Atmospheric Sciences, Physics or a related discipline that includes specific and broad knowledge in the area of modelling complex environmental systems, and have quantitative and modelling skills, including theoretical and programming (e.g. Matlab, Fortran, Python) skills. Knowledge of urban climate and/or complex nonlinear systems, knowledge of differential equations, numerical methods, and stochastic processes, and previous experience with similar research in urban environments and/or coupled socio-environmental systems would be an advantage.
