Chief of Party

Chemonics seeks a chief of party for an anticipated USAID sustainable landscapes project in Southeast Asia. The project aims to catalyze private sector finance to upscale and drive investments in agriculture, forestry, and other land use toward low emission, profitable business models. The chief of party, based in Bangkok, Thailand, will provide overall technical, management, and administrative oversight of the project,  We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure successful functioning of all activities in the project’s main office in Bangkok and the various country offices anticipated to be in Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam
  • Oversee the quality and timeliness of all project deliverables
  • Ensure effective coordination with USAID, relevant USAID Regional Development Mission for Asia projects, relevant government ministries, the private sector, and civil society actors


  • Advanced degree in environmental policy, natural resource management, economics, business, or a related field
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in sustainable landscapes, natural resource management, private sector development, or other relevant experience
  • Minimum five years of professional experience in Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam) and extensive knowledge of Southeast Asian environmental policy, law, economics, investment financing, and public-private partnerships preferred
  • Minimum five years of experience managing and implementing complex donor-funded projects and working collaboratively with a broad range of government officials, the private sector, banks, and other key stakeholders
  • Proven success building institutional capacity of counterparts at the national or local level
  • Experience providing leadership and administration of a complex multimillion dollar sustainable landscapes project
  • Understanding of the complex national and regional operating environments in Southeast Asia; strong network of professional connections with relevant stakeholders preferred
  • Demonstrated competence in leadership, client relations, and project and contract management
  • Ability to supervise large teams and manage projects remotely
  • Ability to travel to various Southeast Asian countries to oversee project implementation and provide technical expertise
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Fluency in English required, proficiency in a Southeast Asian regional language desirable
