The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development [FLNRORD] delivers holistic and multi-faceted natural resource management and rural development programs and services for the Province of British Columbia. The ministry has the primary responsibility for managing BC’s water resources including authorizations, monitoring and forecasting.

British Columbia’s oldest interior community, Fort St. John is perfect for scenic drives, hiking, fishing, and camping, as it sits alongside the Peace River. Hiking is particularly nice in the surrounding provincial parks of Beatton Provincial Park and Charlie Lake Provincial park, where camping is also available. The Senior Authorizations Specialist provides specialist services to the Natural Resource Sector in evaluating resource applications, conducting applied research, and leading or participating in complex projects. This position may supervise professional and technical staff.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:
In order to be considered for this position, your application must clearly demonstrate how you meet the education, experience and professional designation requirement as outlined below:

Education

  • Undergraduate Degree in the Natural Resource Management or a related field, or a Diploma in natural resource management or related field with a minimum of three years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Experience

  • Related experience working in natural resource management; preference may be given for experience related to water management.
  • Experience performing technical duties and working with key statutes (acts and regulations) that support natural resource management; preference may be given for experience related to water management.
  • Experience leading a work unit (team) and directing the work of technical staff.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience in consulting, negotiating and resolving conflicts with stakeholders in natural resource management.
  • Experience in developing and maintaining partnerships with First Nations, other levels of government, stakeholders, and industry.
  • Experience managing First Nations or stakeholder engagement processes, negotiation, and public outreach.

Willingness Statements

  • Successful completion of security screening requirements of the BC Public Service which may include a Criminal records check, and/or Criminal records Review Act (CCRA) check and/or enhanced screening checks as required by the Ministry
  • Valid B.C. driver’s license
  • Meet safety standards of WorkSafe BC
  • Conduct field work which may include travel to remote areas by vehicle, boat, air or foot, overnight or extended stay in rough camp conditions and outdoor work in all weather conditions.
