The Nature Conservancy is seeking a proven leader to advance its work to address climate change, an urgent issue for the organization’s mission and the planet. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

The Global Managing Director, Climate Change will provide strategic leadership and management oversight for multiple organizational strategies to advance TNC’s global work of tackling climate change, with a particular focus on climate change mitigation, adaptation and natural climate solutions. They will be responsible for enhancing TNC’s climate strategy, profile, and global leadership on the critical issue of climate change. This position will focus on raising TNC’s ambition and impact on the issue of climate change. In particular, TNC has an important contribution to make to advance climate change mitigation, adaptation and natural climate solutions (using nature to help sequester carbon). As a leading conservation spokesperson for TNC, the Global Managing Director will represent the organization internally and externally to an array of audiences; advocate for and raise the visibility of organizational global priorities specific to climate change; create high-impact partnerships and collaborations with external partners; and ensure strong strategic direction of TNC’s climate change work. They will work on a global scale and be responsible for fundraising in the private sector, and in the public sector in coordination with TNC’s government relations team, to ensure that sufficient resources are available to accomplish the TNC Climate Change program’s overall strategic goals.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE

 

  • Lead and oversee implementation and coordination of the organization’s climate change strategies and related projects.
  • Represent TNC’s climate change program internally and externally with TNC staff, partners, corporate entities, and other organizations to advance TNC’s priorities.
  • Lead the design and coordinated implementation of long-term global strategic plans, goals, and objectives as they relate to TNC’s strategic priority of tackling climate change.
  • Play a leading role in donor identification and cultivation.
  • Coordinate with individual climate strategy teams in setting and reviewing annual budgets and progress against annual goals and objectives for the priority as a whole.    
  • Lead and manage a team that consists of multi-disciplinary staff who possess global expertise in conservation areas related to climate change.
  • Play a leading role in managing complex partnerships with multiple businesses, associations, community groups, partner organizations, and academia.
  • Effectively lead without authority across a highly-matrixed, decentralized organization.
