Resources for the Future (RFF)—an independent, nonprofit research institution in Washington, DC that is committed to being the most widely trusted source of research insights and policy solutions leading to a healthy environment and a thriving economy—seeks a Strategic Projects Coordinator to become a member of the President’s Office team, reporting to the Chief of Staff/Corporate Secretary. This position provides a challenging and stimulating opportunity for a driven individual to play an important role in advancing RFF’s mission.

Specifically, the Strategic Projects Coordinator will help RFF build and sustain successful relationships with key individuals and organizations, manage various strategic projects, and support the activities of RFF’s Board of Directors and President’s Council. The Coordinator will have exposure to many aspects of RFF’s strategy and will work with the President and Chief of Staff in achieving the organization’s strategic goals.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

RFF Board of Directors and President’s Council Support (60%)

  • Works with the Executive Team and RFF staff to ensure high-quality engagement with the Board of Directors and President’s Council.
  • Working with the Chief of Staff/Corporate Secretary and Vice President for Development, conceptualizes, plans, and executes successful Board of Directors and President’s Council meetings and committee meetings.
  • Supports the Executive Team in preparing for and managing Board and Board committee meetings, including developing and distributing materials, taking minutes, and following up on action items. Plays an active role in the activities of Board committees, especially the Nominating and Governance Committee.
  • Manages the budget for all operations related to the Board/Council, including processing related expenses.
  • Supports the Executive Team in preparing for and coordinating new Board member onboarding and orientation.
  • Understands and anticipates Board and Council member preferences and needs, and interacts directly with members of the Board and Council in a professional manner. Assists with Board and Council communications, requests, and general inquiries.
  • Manages meeting logistics, from room and technology set-up to travel planning, working with other internal departments for expertise and support.
  • Organizes and maintains official e-files, such as RFF institutional documents, including Board/Council meeting materials and other information.

Special Projects and Planning (40%)

  • Works with the President and Chief of Staff to make progress toward organizational strategic goals.
  • Helps create, coordinate, and maintain an annual organizational calendar of strategic activities.
  • Supports the President’s external engagement by coordinating trips and organizing the necessary tasks with other team members.
  • Works with the Executive Team to create and distribute monthly staff updates and other internal communications.
  • Helps to organize weekly/monthly/quarterly priorities for the President’s Office; supports timely completion of top priority goals.
  • Provides support to and undertakes special assignments as directed by the Chief of Staff.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Nonprofit background helpful.

Special Knowledge/Skills Requirements

  • Must be friendly, positive, flexible, outgoing, communicative, and have a sense of humor.
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to handle multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Superb writing and communication skills.
  • High degree of professionalism, diplomacy, and maturity with the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters. Must present a professional, positive, and collegial manner at all times, and the highest level of customer service, both internally and externally.
  • Must be detail and process oriented.
  • Must enjoy building strategic relationships with diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.) and familiarity with or willingness to learn teleconferencing/videoconferencing procedures and programs. Experience with Raiser’s Edge preferred.
  • Must develop and maintain a strong knowledge of the organization and its practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Interest in and commitment to RFF’s mission and values.
  • The position requires minimal travel (once or twice per year).
