Early Career International Development Environmental Professional

Overview:

The Cadmus Group seeks an early career professional to provide both technical and administrative support to our growing International Environment and Development Practice.

The practice supports the environmentally and socially sound design and implementation of international development projects in Africa, Latin America/Caribbean, the Middle East, and Asia/Pacific funded by USAID and other donors. After an initial on-boarding period of 3–4 months, this professional will travel as needed to support trainings, assessments and other field work in developing countries; the position may entail up to 10% international travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research, analysis, and writing to support the completion of technical materials and deliverables in the areas of environmental compliance and management, environmental and social impact assessments, climate risk and vulnerability assessments, and/or related areas. Copyedit and facilitate document production, and translate documents as needed;
  • Maintain project and financial management controls and processes by supporting internal and client cost and activity tracking and reporting requirements, and serving as a primary administrative/financial point of contact for subcontractors;
  • Ensure practice workflow by liaising with internal Cadmus departments and supporting the fulfillment of programmatic and contractual requirements;
  • Draft budgets and monitor spending within and across the practice’s projects; performs accurate analysis and projection of financial status and reports; and
  • Act as technical and project coordinator to support other team members.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in international development and/or internationally-focused U.S. Government work/contracting;
  • Demonstrated experience and excellence in completing project management tasks, including excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, ability to effectively prioritize, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and work well under pressure;
  • Proactive, responsive and resourceful, with exceptional problem solving skills and capacity to address issues independently and coordinate varied activities with superiors, colleagues and overseas field staff;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills, and facility to synthesize complex issues or scenarios for internal and client audiences;
  • Strong team player with a sense of humor that is committed to collegiality and collaboration in the workplace;
  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, and general proficiency in the broader MS Office suite of programs;
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Environmental, Earth, or Climate Sciences; Natural Resources Management; Tropical Agriculture; Civil/Environmental Engineering; Public
  • Health; Social Sciences with clear focus in international development; or a related discipline; and
  • Availability for international travel to developing areas up to 10% of the time.

Preferred

  • Previous professional experience working with or for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and familiarity with contracting requirements for USAID/U.S. Government contracts.
  • Previous experience with Salesforce and SharePoint platforms.
  • Field-based international development experience gained in an academic, professional, or volunteer capacity.
  • Facility in Arabic, French, or Portuguese (minimum Foreign Service Institute Level S3 & R3, or equivalent).

Additional Information
Position is based in our Bethesda, MD or Arlington, VA office and available immediately (ideal start date by/on November 28th); applicants must be willing to travel to DC at their own expense for interviews.
