Job description

This is a new, exciting and unique opportunity to work across the water, land and biodiversity (WLB) teams within GMMC. Based within the Integrated Environment Planning team your focus will be on assisting the delivery of objectives in the current North West River Basin Management Plan and supporting the development of the plans' update in 2021. Actions are required to deliver and update the plan both internally and externally. You will work with, and at times be embedded in several of our WLB teams, as well as supporting the development and translation of evidence for our external partners. Working alongside a range of officers and technical leaders/specialists your role will be varied and flexible with an opportunity to shape the detail of how you work, within an outline framework. You will work in conjunction with existing and emerging programmes, projects and plans, such as catchment plans, Natural Course and Water Industry National Environment Programme. You will need to be flexible in using a variety of approaches to present evidence to guide the effective delivery of priority activities and environmental outcomes in GMMC. You'll be working with WLB colleagues to shape our local contribution towards the Government’s 25 Year Environment Plan.

The team

You’ll join a team of environment planning specialists/officers focusing predominantly on water quality, water resources and Water Framework Directive activities. Working with national colleagues and within/alongside operational teams we collate, analyse and share data, knowledge and information to produce environmental evidence. This informs and drives area priorities and supports incident management.
We’re a team of trusted advisors at the heart of environmental decision making, bringing together internal/external partners to facilitate integrated actions and collective delivery.

• the ability to work flexibly, to adapt to and embrace a wide variety of challenges.
• proven communication and relationship building skills.
• an ability to translate data and information into evidence.
• experience of using evidence and analysis to explore problems and support the development of effective and innovative solutions.
• experience in using basic data management tools.
• experience in using GIS
Knowledge of the Catchment Planning System (CPS) and water quality planning tools would be advantageous but not essential.
Experience of, or a keen interest in river basin planning / water, land and biodiversity would be beneficial.
A degree in an environmental subject is desirable but not essential.
