JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in the Department of Energy and Environment, Natural Resources Administration, Water Quality Division, Monitoring and Assessment Branch. The incumbent serves as an Environmental Protection Specialist and a member of the interdisciplinary scientific monitoring team that is working to protect and restore the quality of the District of Columbia’s water resources.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties include but are not limited to: Collection of samples of surface water, wastewater, river sediment, and biological samples during all seasons of the year; Performance of chemical and physical analyses on river water, wastewater, river sediment, and biological samples; Identification of species of phytoplankton, invertebrates, crustaceans, shellfish, fish, waterfowl and other organisms in the field and in the laboratory; Implementation of quality assurance procedures as part of all monitoring related procedures; Data review and data interpretation using various software; Field investigation and special water pollution control projects in conjunction with other elements of the Division.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year-college or university in a relevant field, plus at least two (2) years of relevant work experience preferred; OR any combination of at least six (6) years of relevant work experience, education, or training. One (1) year specialized experience equivalent to at least CS-7.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION
Incumbent must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
Work is primarily performed in a normal office setting.

This position is a 13 month term appointment with a not-to-exceed (NTE) date.
