VEI is looking for a Project Manager in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – full-time, 4 years.
What is your assignment as project manager
As a project manager you will be overall responsible for the management and implementation of the assigned project. This includes four major components; project management, human resources management, stakeholder management and financial management.
You are responsible for the successful implementation, within time and budget, of this VEI Water Operator Partnership (WOP) in collaboration with the involved Ethiopian organizations. This means that you maintain good relationships with these organizations whereby you acknowledge how the WOP has added value for the beneficiary partners. You provide guidance to a local team of experts as well as to the short term experts that you deploy from the Dutch drinking water companies. You report on the project progress to the VEI team leader (who also works in Ethiopia) as well as to the Dutch Embassy in Ethiopia, which co-finances the project. You are also the business card of the Dutch drinking water companies in Ethiopia.
As a project manager you play an important role in the management and development of involved team members. You manage on output, you have a coaching, facilitating and connecting role.
What we expect from you
We are looking for an all-round project manager (at least 5 years) with stakeholder management experience. You have experience with working in developing countries related to Water Management. It is important that you are and independent worker as well as a team player. You have a good understanding of intercultural interactions, you know how to coach and connect people and you are result-focused. You have an inspiring and visionary leadership style and are able to translate this leadership into action. You take responsibility for your own personal development. You have a master’s degree in a relevant discipline, e.g. water resources management or water supply & sanitation.

About IWRM 4 WASH
VEI is partnering with Ababa Water and Sewerage Agency (AAWSA) as well as with Oromia Water Bureau (OWB) and associated water utilities of Akaki, Burayu, Gelan, Salulta and Sendafa to implement an Integrated Water Resources Management for Water Sanitation and Hygiene (IWRM 4 WASH) project in the catchment areas of Addis Ababa. The overall objective of this project is to improve water resource protection in Addis Ababa’s water catchment by up scaling and anchoring IWRM approaches with special focus on increased water and sanitation supply benefiting approximately 1.3 million people and strengthening market-based approaches.
