About WASH Institute

Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Institute (WASH Institute), established in 2008,is a non-profit organization, dedicated to providing practical solutions to tackle a wide range of water, sanitation, hygiene and environmental issues in India and the neighbouring countries. WASH Institute aims to build the capacities of the sector through programs that provide a) training and academic courses, b) technical advisory and consultancy services, and c) grass roots community WASH programs.

WASH Institute has been conducting extensive training programs for government functionaries, private sector professionals, NGOs, and other practitioners with the objective of effective WASH implementation across the country. In addition, our academic campus offers Diploma and Masters level courses in sanitation, under affiliation to a leading university.

As part of our WASH Advisory program, we provide PMU services to central, state, and local governments in both urban and rural areas to support implementation of SBM, JJM, and AMRUT schemes. Our community WASH programs are currently ongoing in 15 locations across 8 states and 1 Union Territory in India.

We are a multi-disciplinary team that tackle complex multi-faceted problems of behaviour change, quality of service, and sustainability of WASH interventions. We are looking for experienced professionals to work with us towards our visions of “a world where all the communities have access to safe, protected and sustainable drinking water and sanitation services, with improved hygiene practices”.

Mobile treatment unit

Through its research & development wing, WASH Institute has built a mobile treatment unit that treats faecal sludge from septic tank while desludging the containment system. The unit has been extensively field tested over 5 years now and its performance has been tested by International and Indian institutions. Mobile treatment unit is now ready to be commercially launched and scaling its outreach across India. In this regard, with the support from USAID Development Innovation Ventures, WASH Institute plans to test different business models for implementation of MTU and develop its scale up plan.

Desired Qualification and Experience:
MBA with preferred specialisation in finance; 3 to 5 years in Development sector preferably in WASH

Key Roles and Responsibilities:

• Overall project management testing MTU business model and scaling of MTU
• Meeting of donor deliverables for MTU implementation
• Coordinate with local governments in creating awareness on MTU and supporting government with the required documentation
• Coordinate with manufacturing firms on knowledge transfer of MTU and production and sales of MTU
• Engagement with financial institutions to prepare business plans and gap filling financing arrangements to ensure access to finance for entrepreneurs purchasing MTU
• Coordinate with the capacity building team to provide training to MTU operators
• Develop documentation on business models, financial models, tenders and donor related reports.
• Periodic update to the management on the progress and strategy
• Develop communication materials on MTU and show casing MTU’s work through various social media channels
• Developing agency brief for hiring consultants/ agencies as required
• Organize Workshops and conferences for dissemination of MTU business models and lessons from commercializing of MTU.
• Undertake similar program management of assignments and any other research and management consulting work taken up by the organisation.

Preferred Qualification and Experience:

• Post Graduate degree in MBA with preferred specialisation in Finance and with bachelors’ in engineering OR with strong entrepreneurship experience
• Work experience of atleast 5 years in program management including experience with budgeting and financing
• Strong writing skills
• Understanding of water and sanitation theme and issues is desirable and must have strong interest to work in the sector
• Fluency in English and Hindi is essential
