Organizational Description

Watersheds United Vermont (WUV) is a state-wide network of local groups dedicated to the health of their home watersheds. WUV’s mission is to empower community-based watershed groups in all parts of the state to protect and restore Vermont’s waters. WUV is a 501(c)3 nonprofit with an established Board of Directors and Bylaws.

For the Purpose of WUV’s work, watershed groups are defined as community-based organizations working with individuals and communities in their local watersheds to protect and improve water quality, habitat, and flood resilience and to build social and ecological connections with Vermont’s waters. Watershed groups work with all watershed constituents and do not represent a specific constituency or interest group. Some groups focus on a particular aspect of watershed restoration, while others engage in a full suite of watershed restoration and protection activities.

Position Overview

As part of Watersheds United Vermont’s work, WUV administers multiple block grants, largely from funding through Vermont’s Department of Environmental Conservation. The purpose of these block grants is for WUV to provide subgrants to watershed groups and partner organizations for watershed restoration projects statewide. WUV will provide more than $2 million dollars in funds to watershed groups and partner organizations for these projects over the next two years. WUV is seeking a half time (~20 hours per week) Grants Coordinator to help with all administrative and financial aspects of these grant programs as well as to support other WUV strategies. This position will work closely with WUV’s Director and Grants Administrator to ensure successful grant making, reporting and tracking.

Responsibilities

The Grants Coordinator will be responsible for the successful management and tracking of WUV’s subgrant programs as well as supporting WUV’s general operations. WUV’s current Grant Administrator will continue to be the primary contact for our subgrantees and will continue to lead the development of grant applications and processes. The Grants Coordinator will take the lead on project and financial tracking and will assist in all aspects of grant management work as well as other program support as needed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Creating and maintaining file and grant tracking systems
  • Writing, amending and tracking subgrant agreements
  • Tracking subgrantee organizational documents and subcontract approval forms
  • Assisting with review and approval of grant deliverables on water quality and conservation projects from subgrantees;
  • Assisting Grant Administrator with grant deliverables and reporting to funders;
  • Writing press releases
  • Assisting Grant Administrator with Block Grant RFP development
  • Managing one or more block grants with subgrantees
  • Supporting invoicing, accounts payable/receivable and financial tracking
  • Updating website and other communication tools and reports
  • Assisting with other tasks to support WUV’s strategies depending on need and interest
  • Working with Director and Grant Administrator to increase efficiencies and improve financial and program reporting and deliverables

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, Google Drive
  • Strong knowledge of document tracking and organization
  • Excellent financial management skills; familiarity with QuickBooks a plus
  • Two to three years of grants or project management, financial management or project tracking experience
  • Knowledge of nonprofit and government accounting and operations
  • Interest and general knowledge of natural resources conservation and watershed protection and restoration

Key Relationships:

The Grants Coordinator will report to the WUV Director. The Grants Coordinator will work closely with both WUV’s Director and par- time Grants Administrator. The Grants Coordinator will also interact with watershed groups and partners on subgrant reporting and documentation.

Position Specifics

The Grants Coordinator will be an employee of Watersheds United Vermont. The position will be a part-time, hourly position. The position will be approximately ½ time (~20 hours per week). WUV has funding for the position through 2025. There is a possibility of increased hours and an extension of the end date contingent on additional grant funding. Depending on interest, skills and qualifications, there is also the possibility to expand work tasks. The salary range for this position is $24 to $26 per hour, based on experience. Work hours and days are flexible, but must be during regular working hour times. Benefits include vacation, sick/personal and holiday leave, as well as an employer stipend towards both health insurance and retirement. These benefits will be prorated to a part-time position. The Grants Coordinator will work remotely from a home office. There will be occasional travel for meetings. Employee must be based in Vermont.
