The Senior Program Officer, WSH is a temporary (14 month) position backfilling for the incumbent on maternity leave. The Senior Program Officer reports to the Deputy Director, Urban Sanitation Markets, and will provide direct management and support to the Urban Sanitation Markets sub-initiative. S/he will take on the responsibilities of a full time PO, with substantial strategic guidance and support from senior team members. S/he will manage investments related to the Market and Industry Development sub-initiative, including commercialization of new sanitation technologies, market analysis and market development strategies, and public-private partnership models. Key activities include investment development, grant management, partner management and support for team-level initiatives.
Because this position is a temporary maternity backfill position, we need individuals who are quick learners, good team contributors and are comfortable working in ambiguity. This is a limited term employee (LTE) role with a term of 14 months. S/he must be a proficient multitasker, have strong written and verbal communication skills, and enjoy learning new areas quickly. This is an ideal role for someone with strong problem solving skills who wants to engage in a different area of the foundation’s work.
-Located in Seattle, WA, the Program Officer will report to the Deputy Director, Urban Sanitation Markets. Key responsibilities include:
-Plan, manage and execute a wide range of activities in support of grant management, strategic planning, and external relationship management.
-Manage internal processes and portfolio progress while ensuring appropriate documentation, grant budgeting and reporting.
-Consult with grantees to achieve desired impact of grants; conduct site visit, provide technical guidance, convene meetings, and apply and evaluate milestone-based performance objectives.
-Review letters of inquiry & grant proposals; provide clear, concise & insightful written analyses & recommendations for funding including drafting & editing proposal summaries & progress reports for existing grants for review by WSH leadership.
-Prepare and write briefs and synthesize existing literature. Provide written analysis of key topics for Foundation management.
-Collaborate with WSH team members and participate in key strategic discussions.
-This role is responsible for high quality interactions and clear and consistent communications with grantees and partners in the field.
-A minimum of 5 years of professional experience with 3 years of experience in management consulting, relevant international development areas, or commercialization and market development.
-MBA or other advanced degree in a relevant field
-Broad understanding of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene or global health/development issues and some global health/development experience is preferable.
– Experience with commercialization of new technologies, market analysis and market development strategies, and/or public-private partnership models is preferable
-Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
-Demonstrated ability to function successfully in a politically demanding environment
-Excellent organizational skills, demonstrated ability to participate and lead teams through a complex and ambiguous task.
-Demonstrated outstanding written and oral communication skills
-Ability to be independent and work effectively and with sensitivity across barriers such as language, culture and distance Excellent software skills with Microsoft Office applications. Ability to quickly learn new software modules
-Commitment to the foundation’s core values, mission, and programs.
-Experience working in a matrix environment preferred.
-Scope of work will require residency or relocation to the Seattle, Washington area
