The research Section Head supervises and provides professional oversight for the Skeena Regional Research Program, including managing staff and financial resources, managing stakeholder relationships, applying legislation, policies, and professional standards in a consistent manner, participating in provincial policy development. The Research Section Head oversees the delivery of the regional research program and leads applied-science research projects in their field of expertise (preferably forest hydrology). 

Reporting to an excluded manager at the Business Leadership level, the Licenced Section Head is accountable for the supervision of staff at the professional or specialist level. This position manages staff and financial resources, ensures achievement of and evaluates the outcomes of program goals and applies legislation, policies and professional standards.  The Section Head leads projects and strategic initiatives to address large-scale and controversial issues within its geographic area.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A thesis-based PhD (preferred) in a forest hydrology related scientific field (including Silviculture, Forest Entomology, Climatology, Soil Science, Geomorphology), plus a minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience in natural resource, ecosystem or forest management; OR,
  • A thesis-based Master’s degree in a forest hydrology related scientific field (including Silviculture, Forest Entomology, Climatology, Soil Science, Geomorphology), plus a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in natural resource, ecosystem or forest management.
  • Registered as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists), or immediately eligible for registration.  Note:  immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable Canadian jurisdiction.  Applicants must confirm their eligibility with the appropriate B.C. association.
  • Experience supervising and leading technical and professional teams on projects or program delivery.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, planning, and implementing research projects, including directing your own and other’s scientific work to achieve research objectives.
  • Experience producing technical reports and peer-reviewed research publications.

Flexible work options are available as this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week as per the Telework Agreement.
