Junior advisor resilience

Delft, Netherlands 🇳🇱

Do you have a passion for climate resilience, and do you have an affinity with programming and tool development? Are you eager to use state of the art methods to find practical solutions for marine and coastal challenges? Then we want you on our team!

What can you expect as Junior advisor resilience?

As Junior advisor you will be working on, together with a team of 25 colleagues, the development of innovative services and solutions and implement them with our clients. This enables them to prepare for and adapt to the impact of climate change. These solutions proactively contribute to social challenges in marine and coastal areas, in the Netherlands and abroad. Tools, like the FIAT tool, contribute to these innovative solutions, and therefore you use your programming skills on a daily basis. Also, you understand and analyze processes in the physical and socio-economic system by using data and models. Affinity with analyzing conditions, patterns and processes in the physical and socio-economic system by using data, models and (new) tools is therefore an important skill.

You also work in interdisciplinary project teams within Deltares and with other institutes for applied research, industry, NGO’s and governments. Contributing to project reporting, proposals and other deliverables for our clients is also part of the job.

Who are you?

You are a proactive academic with a passion for coastal climate resilience and have affinity with developing technical tools. You like to work in a team and taking responsibility is one of your strong suits. You would like to develop yourself in data analysis and tool development regarding marine and coastal areas, with a strong link to policy makers and administrators.

You also bring to the table:

  • A postgraduate qualification (MSc) in natural sciences related to the marine domain, e.g. earth sciences, civil engineering, marine biology, applied mathematics. Studies like Industrial Design, Industrial Ecology and Data science would also qualify.
  • You have experience in processing and visualizing complex data sets, using scripting languages (such as Python or R) and GIS software (such as QGIS or ArcGIS). Familiarity with database management systems and statistical software is a plus.
  • You speak and write English fluently and use those skills with reporting.
  • You have good communication skills to explain technical details of your work to less specialized colleagues, stakeholders, or clients.
