Job Title | Postdoctoral Research Associate in Critical Zone Science |
---|---|
Department | Geography/Geology |
Essential Functions | The research team of CINet, an interdisciplinary project that is part of the National Science Foundation’s CZ Collaborative Network (CZCN), invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate position in the field of Critical Zone Science. Up to 2.5 years of funding for the position is available through the Department of Geography/Geology at the University of Nebraska – Omaha, but the research associate will participate in field research at sites in Nebraska and Illinois aimed at advancing critical zone science. The research associate will work across a geographically distributed diverse team of researchers in the CINet cluster to help synthesize critical zone data in intensively managed systems. We are particularly interested in a colleague who could help advance characterization and modeling efforts related to soil and solute geochemistry and hydrology, soil gas production, carbon dynamics, watershed sediment dynamics, floodplain-river geomorphology, and/or watershed geochemistry, although the exact scope of work is dependent on research experience and interests. Multiple opportunities exist for collaborations across the multi-institutional CINet project as well as with other projects that constitute the CZCN; cross-cluster collaborations are particularly encouraged. The position will also involve mentoring junior colleagues, graduate and undergraduate students, and including mentorship opportunities as part of a recently funded CZNet REU program. It is fully expected that the candidate will be productive in writing (including manuscripts and grant proposals) and presenting research outcomes, as well as have a strong desire to work collaboratively across institutions and CZCN projects. |
