One of TNC’s primary goals is to cultivate an inclusive work environment so that employees around the globe have a sense of belonging and feel that their unique contributions are valued. We know we’ll only achieve our mission by hiring and engaging a diverse staff that reflects the communities in which we work. Recognizing that people bring talent and skills that have been developed outside the scope of a job, we take a holistic approach to recruitment that considers life experience in addition to the professional requirements listed in our postings. Please apply – we’d love to hear from you. To quote a popular saying at TNC, “you’ll join for the mission, and you’ll stay for the people.”

This is an exciting decade to be a part of The Nature Conservancy (TNC) as we galvanize momentum to address the dual crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. This urgency is particularly pronounced when it comes to rivers, lakes, and wetlands.

Globally, monitored freshwater populations have declined by an average of 83% since 1970, we’ve lost 64% of the world’s wetlands since 1900, and only 37% of the world’s longest rivers remain unimpeded and free-flowing. Add to this mix the implications of climate change, with patterns of precipitation becoming more unpredictable and regionally dryer and wetter, exacerbating pre-existing patterns of water abundance and insecurity. In response, TNC has set an audacious goal of conserving 1 million kilometres of river systems and 30 million hectares of lakes and wetlands by 2030. The Central Freshwater team helps create alignment toward this goal among programs and practitioners across the globe, accelerate knowledge transfer on key topics essential to our forward momentum, and overcome obstacles that slow our progress.

The Freshwater Outcomes Coordinator will provide programmatic support and coordination related to Central Freshwater team’s annual work plan, deliverables, and priorities, including those associated with an internally focused Freshwater Council and Freshwater Community of Practice. The Coordinator will also provide scheduling support associated with meeting planning, research assistance on specific topics, and coordination with external partners. Some assignments may also address needs of other priority areas such as similar support for our Durable Freshwater Protection team.

The position sits within the Global Protect Oceans, Lands and Waters team and reports to the Associate Director of Freshwater Outcomes.

Are you looking for work you can believe in? At TNC we strive to embody a philosophy of Work that You Can Believe In, where you can feel like you are making a difference every day.
