Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Advanced university degree (i.e., master’s or doctoral) in fisheries management, fish biology, fish ecology, zoology, or related fields;
  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in designing and formulating policy papers related to fisheries investments and intervention in large river basins;
  • Extensive experience in preparing fisheries technical reports, including the Mekong state of the basin fisheries reports and MRC Council Study on Biological Resource Assessment, MRC basin-wise fisheries management and development strategy;
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in fisheries and the environment of the Mekong River Basin is preferable;
  • Specific knowledge and experiences with relevant international agreements and practices such as the Food and Agriculture Organization Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, technical guidelines, action plans and approaches for inland fisheries management, ecosystem-based approach, and precautionary approach are advantageous;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to negotiate constructively in a Mekong/Southeast Asia institutional and cultural context;
  • Fluent in verbal and written English;
  • Strong analytical skills;
  • Immediate availability will be considered an advantage to the selection process.
