  • Senior Scientist role
  • Two temporary full-time opportunities till June 2024, Lidcombe based however regional location negotiable
  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $111,595 to $124,315 + super and leave loading

Our Water, Wetlands and Coastal Science team is currently seeking to appoint two Senior Scientists to be part of our team dedicated to monitoring, evaluating and reporting on the health of iconic wetlands in the Murray-Darling Basin in support of our environmental water management program.

About You

You will be involved in our vegetation workstream monitoring the condition and extent of wetland vegetation for inland iconic wetlands within the Murray Darling Basin. We are seeking candidates with experience in data collection, data preparation and analysis, interpreting results, and the preparation of technical reports and other information products. You will communicate outcomes with both expert and non-expert audiences and the roles will involve field work in remote locations.

Specific requirements for each role:

  1. Extensive fieldwork and on ground vegetation capabilities who have led field data collection including site selection and vegetation mapping.
  2. Advanced GIS, modelling, map building and data analysis and interpretation skills. Skills in remote sensing, spatial analysis and data management to support environmental water management will also be highly valued.

This is an excellent opportunity for an enthusiastic vegetation and/or GIS/modeller to contribute to vital monitoring and evaluation of wetland inundation across the NSW portion of the Murray-Darling Basin. Essential Requirements 

  • Extensive experience in on ground vegetation monitoring and mapping and/or demonstrated knowledge and extensive experience in data management, ArcGIS and/or remote sensing software, scripting in ‘python’ and/or ‘r’
  • Relevant science degree
  • Current driver’s licence
