Research Scientist and Program Coordinator

Eawag (Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology)

Dübendorf, Switzerland 🇨🇭

Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.

We invite applications for a

Research Scientist and Program Coordinator (80-100%)

for “Climate Change and Freshwater Biodiversity”, a joint research program of Eawag and FOEN

Unfortunately, freshwater biodiversity is currently declining at unprecedented rates, faster even than on land and in the oceans. In addition to well-known problems such as habitat degradation, fragmentation, pollutant inputs and invasive species, freshwater habitats are particularly affected by global warming. Climate change is already changing water levels and seasonal discharges in Switzerland, and the high water temperatures in summer create direct stress for aquatic life. Warming also interacts with other stressors, often amplifying them. This research program examines the impact of climate warming on aquatic biodiversity in the context of other stressors and seeks ways to reduce the negative impacts. The goal is the long-term conservation of natural bio-diversity in aquatic habitats. Several Eawag research departments are involved in the interdisciplinary research projects.
