The Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) is a community-based natural resource management agency that works to protect, enhance, and sustain healthy watersheds. With 60 years of experience, the NPCA offers watershed programs and services that focus on flood and hazard management, source water protection, species protection, ecosystem restoration, community stewardship, and land management.

The NPCA is one of 36 Conservation Authorities in the Province of Ontario. With 41 Conservation Areas within the Niagara Peninsula watershed, the NPCA manages lands that are held in public trust for recreation, heritage preservation, conservation, and education. These natural and shared greenspaces marry nature, culture and adventure to create limitless opportunities for discovery.

Summary of Duties

The Program Associate – Water Resources holds an important organizational role as a team member responsible for assisting with the program implementation of the Water Resources Department and/or the Flood Forecasting program. This position is funded in part through the Canada Summer Jobs program and candidates must be between the ages of 15-30 and eligible under this program: (have Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or Refugee Protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act; have a valid social insurance number; and be legally entitled to work in Canada). 

Duties and Responsibilities

The Program Associate – Water Resources will assist with:

  • The collection, entry, and analysis of water resources data, which may be related to one of more of the following: groundwater, surface water (biological and chemistry), geomorphology, meteorology, water quantity
  • Use and maintenance of specialized equipment in the collection of the data

Qualifications

  • Knowledge and interest in the area of Environmental Science / Water Resources
  • Good understanding of computer skills (MS Excel, Access, Power Point and Word)
  • Willing to work outdoors, in different or adverse environmental conditions
  • Self-motivated and can take initiative for assigned work
  • Must possess a valid Ministry of Transportation Class “G” driver’s license
  • Must be able to work safely in accordance with the NPCA Health and Safety Policies

Salary Range:  $17.50 / hour (35 hours per week)
