The Bureau of Meteorology is responsible for providing flood warning and forcasting services in every state and territory across Australia. This function is described in the Service Level Specification for Flood Forecasting and Warning Services for Queensland.

The primary responsibilities of the Senior Hydrologist are to deliver and coordinate hydrological advice and decision support services in Queensland. This role will also coordinate customer engagement whilst capturing their requirements for planning, preparation, response and recovery.

A key deliverable of this role will be to communicate and engage directly with key customers to build, nurture and grow relationships. You will manage and deliver continuous improvements to the Bureau’s processes, products, governance and services for emergency services and first responders. 

You will work as part of a high performing team that delivers an outstanding customer experience in Queensland through partnership with emergency managers and first responders. You will connect seamlessly and coherently within the Bureau’s national footprint, and demonstrate a high level of collaboration and innovation to contribute to the ongoing delivery of the Bureau’s strategic directions.

During severe weather events, you will be committed to supporting the Bureau and our customers outside the scope of standard working hours. This includes operational roles as defined by the Bureau’s competency framework as well as the provision of high quality briefings to customers.
