  • Salary relative to experience, and ranges from $111,595 to $124,315 + super and leave loading

Our Water, Wetlands & Coastal Science branch is currently seeking to appoint a Senior Scientist to provide advanced technical, scientific and analytical support for scientific programs, and to influence the strategic direction of science priorities. The work involves liaising with a range of internal and external stakeholders to build technical capacity and foster skills on implementing operational policies, frameworks and guidelines on managing water quality and health of our state’s waterways. The work is part of a flagship water quality initiative under the Marine Estate Management Strategy 20218-2028.

About you

As a Senior Scientist you will be part of a supportive and high performing team that works across multiple waterway environments aimed at building knowledge to inform management and policy decisions. You will be committed to working collaboratively to deliver customer-focused results from technical or scientific projects, to consistently deliver high quality data, and provide strategic influential advice.

You will provide

  • Support and influence for the strategic direction of science priorities
  • Expert advice and communication to relevant stakeholders regarding the status of projects
  • High standards of open communication, collaboration, data and knowledge management to support effective knowledge sharing within the business.
  • Preparation of a range of project related documents, including project management plans, briefing papers, discussion papers, reports, research papers, submissions and responses to information requests, develop and present scientific and technical presentations that explain complex processes clearly and are suitable for a range of audiences.

Essential Requirements & Key Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in environmental or water science.
  • Well-developed knowledge and experience in developing and delivering rigorous science projects related to water quality and ecology of waterways
  • Experience in project management including allocation of resources, and ability to report on results achieved
  • Strong communication skills, with demonstrated ability to explain complex scientific information to a range of stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and to manage self
