Purpose: To lead and conduct interdisciplinary, applied research in the areas of water resources management, particularly related to floods in Texas, but expandable to other regions in U.S. and globally, depending on funding. We are seeking a researcher with experience in water resource management using one or more of the following technical approaches: numerical modeling of river basins at regional scales, familiarity with remote sensing (e.g. Soil Moisture Active Passive), and use of ground-based monitoring data (e.g. soil moisture monitoring network, groundwater level data). Applications can include a new statewide flood plan for Texas, hydrologic and hydraulic inputs to flooding, flood mitigation in urban and rural settings, and environmental flows.

Functions: Perform fundamental and applied research in the areas of water resources management, particularly related to floods. Obtain research funding in water resources related research from state and federal agencies, foundations and private companies. Foster relationships with research sponsors and partners at state agencies, such as the Texas Water Development Board and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, and river authorities to design research projects. Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, and other outlets. Present research results at national and international professional meetings, technical conferences, and at sponsor-held meetings. Provide service to professional societies, the Bureau of Economic Geology and the Jackson School of Geosciences. Serve on committees as needed.
