Environmental Intervention Unit (EIU) under the Infectious Diseases Division has focuses on determining and mitigating environmental contaminants and evaluating WASH strategies for improved health and generating evidence to understand the extent of environmental pollution and contamination in low resource settings.

Position Description:
Adolescents in Bangladesh often start their puberty and reproductive life without prior knowledge, specifically on changes during adolescence, menstruation and pregnancy. According to National Baseline Survey 2018, only 36%  Bangladeshi adolescent girls have reported hearing about menstruating before menarche. The National Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) Strategy 2021 was developed with unanimous agreement towards a need for collaborative effort involving all sectors. However, the successful implementation of the strategy necessitates accounting for all associated costs for implementation, monitoring, and evaluation. A clear approach to costing and budgeting of the MHM action plan is, therefore a critical first step in ensuring that efforts are practical and can be implemented sustainably.

The Research Assistant will report to the Associate Scientist /Research Trainee and will be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing research with the objective of collecting high-quality data, analyze, writing reports and manuscripts, and documentation within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values and guidelines. The position will be based in Dhaka.

  • Support research team in arranging divisional and district-level workshops with relevant government and non-government stakeholders
  • Communicate with stakeholders through drafting, revising, and delivering invitation letters
  • Select venues, acquire logistics, and communicate with local vendors for supplies
  • Build rapport with the community and stakeholders
  • Identify potential Key informants, FGD participants and IDI participants following the eligibility criteria
  • Work with team members in preparing field plan; collect high quality data in timely manner adhering to the ethical guidelines
  • Submit the data, check transcription and code qualitative data in order to proper implementation of the project
  • Support in drafting initial report
  • Work with supervisor in writing manuscripts in order to support scientific manuscript publication
  • Promote a spirit of collegiality amongst the team members
  • Encourage team members to collaborate and work together

Required qualifications and experience:

  • Bachelor degree in any discipline.
  • 3 years of experience for candidates with a Bachelor degree and 1 year or more experience for candidates with Master’s degree in both qualitative and quantitative data collection, analysis, and interpretation;

Contract Type and duration:

  • CSA; duration will be 05 Months with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.

Salary & benefits:

  • Tk.34,159/-per month (consolidated) inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances;
  • Festival bonus, income tax paid by icddr,b, and subsidized canteen; Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
