DELWP brings together Victoria’s climate change, biodiversity protection, resource recovery, water, energy, land management, planning and forest and fire management functions into a single department. DELWP directly manages an $8 billion of assets, with 77 per cent comprising various categories of public land. DELWP take an integrated approach to creating thriving environments and communities and supporting Victoria’s economic recovery from the impact of COVID-19.

Water and Catchments Group (WCG) is responsible for effectively managing Victoria’s water resources to meet future urban, rural and environmental needs and works in partnership with stakeholders including water corporations and catchment management authorities. WCG works across DELWP, government and key stakeholders to deliver engaged communities, secure urban and rural water supplies, greener and liveable cities and towns and healthy waterways and aquifers.

Reporting to the Deputy Secretary Water and Catchments, your primary focus will be building and maintaining strong relationships with the 29 portfolio entities within Victoria’s Water and Catchment Management sectors, to develop and implement the government’s policies and programs and deliver for their communities.

You will have responsibility for leading four branches across Sector Governance & Support, Policy Partnerships, Intergovernmental and Sector Resilience and Emergency. You will lead WCG’s engagement with Water Corporations and Catchment Management Authorities, providing governance oversight and assurance that these entities have the required accountabilities, management and planning capabilities to meet the Victorian community’s needs for today and the future. Additionally, you will also be part of the broader DELWP leadership team that provides advice from the sector into Departmental processes including governance.

You will be an experienced executive leader with experience working across the public sector or from within the water/catchments sector. You will have demonstrated understanding of the economic, social and environment drivers for the State’s water and catchment management sectors, including emergency management leadership. Key to your success is your ability to influence and build credible relationships with industry, government and the community to inform policy development and implementation. You will have proven ability leading the engagement of high performing, engaged and community focused teams. Responding to continuous change, the challenge of climate change and pandemic recovery, you will thrive as an adaptive leader in a complex and dynamic environment.
