Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Quantitative Watershed Hydrology
The University of Windsor’s Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the area of Quantitative Watershed Hydrology, commencing July 1, 2017. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

EES comprises 14 faculty and 4 support staff and is home to Bachelor of Environmental Science and Bachelor of Environmental Studies undergraduate degree programs, as well as Earth Science M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs. Research within EES is diverse and includes sedimentology, environmental chemistry and geophysics, trophic ecology, geochemistry, geographic information science (GIS), coastal geomorphology, igneous petrology, petroleum and mineral resources, biogeochemistry, and hydrogeology. Several EES faculty have appointments and participate in collaborative research programs in the Great Lakes Institute for Environmental Research (GLIER). EES, in partnership with GLIER, is creating a unique cluster of researchers that will characterize Great Lakes watershed sustainability challenges and develop adaptive resource management strategies to specifically address these challenges. We are seeking a hydrologist with quantitative freshwater resource characterization and management expertise, preferably with application to Great Lakes watershed quality and quantity issues. The candidate will acquire new, relevant data and use forward-looking approaches, such as numerical modeling, to predict the severity of potential impacts to freshwater resource sustainability associated with major stressors, particularly those currently impacting the Great Lakes watershed (e.g., climate change, population growth and associated impacts, land use and management practices), and will contribute to development of adaptive management strategies to mitigate these impacts.
The ideal candidate must possess a Ph.D. in quantitative watershed hydrology, preferably with emphasis on Great Lakes watershed characterization, modeling, and management, supported by a record of research excellence, as evidenced by refereed publications in top tier journals and grants/fellowships. The candidate would ideally have expertise in developing new GIS and remote sensing approaches, including visualization and modeling of large, complex watershed hydrologic datasets at a range of spatial and temporal scales, which would provide opportunities for the candidate to collaborate with GLIER and other University of Windsor researchers engaged in Big Data research initiatives. The candidate must pursue an appointment in GLIER and contribute to implementation of a new course-based Master of Science degree program in Freshwater Resource Sustainability in EES. Experience working in inter/multidisciplinary research teams to address complex environmental sustainability challenges is essential. Strong English communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses are required.
