Introduction
The mission of the Green Climate Fund is to assist developing countries to respond to climate change while bringing prosperity to their people. Established in 2010, the GCF invests in transformational climate projects in the developing world. The Fund makes an ambitious contribution to global climate action and channels significant financial resources into developing countries to help build low-emission and climate-resilient societies. It is country-driven and undertakes actions that reflect the circumstances of each country concerned and its national aspirations. The GCF is a key enabler of the 2015 Paris Agreement on Climate Change. Since its establishment, the GCF has approved 190 projects in 123 countries and has committed USD 10 billion in climate finance. In addition, it has built up an extensive program to support developing countries to identify their needs, in particular, those who are most vulnerable to climate change impacts. Position Objective
The External Affairs Associate Professional will be responsible for providing a range of operational and analytical support to both resource mobilization and strategic partnership functions within DEA to mobilize/manage resources and strategically engage with contributors and various types of GCF partners and stakeholders.
Duties and responsibilities
Purpose
- Analyze the existing and potential new contributors to identify ways to strengthen the relationships and mobilize more resources and draft targeted engagement plans.
- Identify the steps and areas that are necessary for strengthening the resource mobilization process and initiate the work required to support the process.
- Identify global and regional fora and opportunities for the strategic and high-level engagement of the Fund and provide consolidated analytical tools to prioritise outreach and engagement.
- Support the update and development of advocacy tools and knowledge products considering political, strategic and operational issues of relevance for GCF’s engagement.
Engagement
- Collaborate in cross-Secretariat coordination to secure timely support for all resource mobilization and strategic partnership related work.
- Build and manage key resource mobilization related database (e.g. Status of GCF resources tableau database) and CRM in collaboration with ICT, and analyze data to provide regular updates to DEA Management and SMT.
- Engage and interact with diverse partners and stakeholders of the Fund to support the strengthening of relationship management.
Delivery
- Assess the flow of contributions into GCF to maintain and manage the relevant data to produce regular forecasts of expected contributions.
- Assess the necessary work for resource mobilization to support the preparation of relevant policy documents, reports, briefing notes, presentations and operational guidelines.
- Support development and implementation of stakeholder engagement plans including targeted partnership management tools.
- Evaluate partnership activities to capture lessons and support organizing knowledge-sharing forums to improve engagement with stakeholders.
Required experience and qualifications
- Master`s degree in international relations, development studies, finance, climate change, economics, public affairs, political science, or a related field; or a Bachelor’s degree with 2 additional years of relevant experience.
- A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in resource mobilization, international relations, partnership & outreach, and communications;
- Familiarity with GCF policies & relevant understanding of GCF’s resource mobilization process, particularly experience in analyzing key contributor countries is a plus.
- Desirable experience and knowledge in development and/or climate finance, multilateral funds, including the UNFCCC framework;
- Highly-organised and detail-oriented, with a strong ability to multi-task and deliver quality work on time under pressure.
- Experienced in the use of Excel advanced functions, other Microsoft office suite products, and project management software (e.g., Asana or similar). Experience in working on Tableau & CRM is an added advantage.
- Highly collaborative, team player, and experienced working in multi-cultural organizations.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, and experience preparing high-quality written briefings, dashboard reports, and other documents.
