Employment Status Non-Exempt; Full-Time
Salary: $18.00 per hour (+ licenses)
Certifications/Licenses: CDL-B (A preferred) Driver’s License Required, Hoisting 2C within probationary period

SUMMARY

The City of Chicopee’s Department of Public Works is hiring a WPC Attendant in the Water Pollution Control Division who assists in the operation, maintenance, cleaning, and repair of all plant process equipment, buildings, and grounds, for their proper and safe operation. Also drives vehicles to transport facility residuals.

SOME ESSENTIAL DUTIES INCLUDE

• Will be required to work in all divisions of the DPW-Public Utilities.
• Snow removal: may be assigned to DPW Highway to operate plows/sanders/ any all-other storm related equipment during snow and ice removal operations during regular and overtime hours. Head of snow removal team at WPC: assigns snow removal workers, supervises and participates in the operation of snow removal equipment to maintain streets, sidewalks, and driveways at WPC.
• Purchases supplies and materials according to City purchasing procedures.
• Maintains inventory of cleaning/janitorial supplies, building and ground maintenance supplies and order as needed.
• Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other wooden structures.
• Receives and hands out written work orders or verbal instructions.
• Works in enclosed tanks and underground tight spaces.
• Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with supervisors or other maintenance workers to diagnose problem or repair machine.
• Adheres to all state, federal, and local safety regulations as well as City of Chicopee Health and Safety policies.

QUALIFICATIONS
To be minimally qualified for this position, one must meet the following criteria:

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• CDL-B Driver’s License Required (CDL-A preferred)
• Massachusetts 2C Hoisting License or obtain within probationary period.

This is a Full Time, 40-hour work week position.
This role is classified as Grade 6L, Step 5, with a minimum starting pay of $20.25 ($18.00 Base salary + $2.25 CDL-B License) per hour, with periodic step and pay increases upon continuous completion of employment with the City of Chicopee.
