Title: Executive Officer – Healthy Rivers to Reef Partnership
Tenure: Full-time (part-time considered) Commence December 2022
Base Salary: $85,000 to $105,000 (depending on experience)
Location: Mackay or Proserpine

We have an exciting opportunity to lead our Partnership with the vision of working together for healthy rivers and Reef, contributing to a prosperous Mackay-Whitsunday-Isaac region.

About the Partnership
We formed in 2014 in recognition of the impact of collective action. The Partnership is a collaboration between the community, Traditional Owners, farmers and fishers, industry, science, tourism, and government. The Partnership aims to provide a complete picture of our region’s waterway condition and advocate for improved waterway health.

  • As a Partnership, we have identified the following objectives to drive our program:
  • Engaged partners that collaborate on innovative ideas and actions to improve waterway health
  • Advocate for investment to increase our understanding of waterway conditions to prioritise and inform decision making
  • Identify, collate, integrate and analyse existing data from waterway monitoring programs and translate it into understandable messages and stories for the public
  • Celebrate and inspire actions that improve waterway health.

The role oversees a small multidisciplinary team (Technical Officers and Communication Officer) focused on advancing the Partnerships vision. We are one of five regional reef report card Partnerships, and you’d work closely with colleagues in other Partnerships to ensure program efficiency and leveraging of opportunities.

Roles and primary duties

  • Leadership and oversight of the delivery of the Partnership program.
  • Provide strategic direction to the Partnership’s operations to enhance its reputation and sustain and expand its effectiveness in achieving its vision and objectives.
  • Generating new revenue and in-kind support including identifying new partnerships aligned with our vision.
  • Manage and work closely with technical and communication staff to oversee the design of technical reports, scientific communication products and communication and marketing activities.
  • Maintain and enhance governance arrangements, including providing operational and secretariat services for the Partnership and Management Committee meetings.

This role would suit a broad range of professionals with diverse backgrounds in waterway science or management, community engagement, science communication and education, business sustainability, and marketing.

Selection Criteria

  • Demonstrated leadership capability and program management experience.
  • Proven ability to maintain and develop networks and relationships, including actively seeking opportunities for new networks and Partners.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including communicating with and influencing a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience managing committees and secretariat services, including maintaining annual budgets and financial reports.
  • Knowledge or ability to acquire knowledge of waterway monitoring, reporting, and whole of catchment issues (i.e. environmental, social, economic and cultural).
  • Ability to prioritise competing workloads for optimum outcomes under tight deadlines or budgets.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field, with a minimum of five (5) years of experience.

Work Environment
The Partnership is hosted by Reef Catchments Limited, the natural resource management (NRM) organisation in the Mackay Whitsunday Isaac region.

Reef Catchments has a hybrid working from home policy that allows up to 40% of contract hours to be performed from home and set in-office team days. Other arrangements can be discussed.
