The mission of the WaterFront Center is connect people of all ages and backgrounds to the water. We accomplish our mission by offering low-cost, hands-on, vibrant programming and events. Each year we engage more than 20,000 participants through marine education and sailing programs for youth and adults, kayak, sailboat, and paddleboard rentals, and sails aboard Christeen.

  • Dedicated to the WFC mission
  • Interact and speak with customers on a daily basis
  • Complete understanding of all WFC programs and activities
  • Oversee registration and scheduling and provide end to end customer support for all WFC programs and activities
  • Hire, train, and manage seasonal office staff including a Front Desk Manager
  • Assist in planning special events

  • Strong background or willingness to learn WordPress
  • Creates any needed data in the form of letters, memorandums, proposals or reports
  • Initiative and integrity

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

1) Programs & Activities

  • Scheduling
    • Communicate with customer to establish needs and time frame
    • Schedule Program
    • Book appropriate instructor(s) as needed
    • Communicate with staff as needed
  • Interact with customers before and after, provide appropriate program suggestions and obtain feedback upon completion
    • Confirm all scheduled programs and activities have all necessary assets ranging from certified sailing instructors to volunteers
  • Organize and schedule adult and junior volunteers
  • Work with team members to strategize and develop new offerings and growth for future seasons

2) Customer Service

  • Interact with customers before and after programs to provide appropriate program suggestions and obtain feedback after program completion
  • Diffuse difficult customer situations, troubleshoot issues that arise, brainstorm and implement solutions in a fast paced work environment
  • Keep social media and core website up to date with current offerings and registration information while continually looking for ways to enhances the customer’s experience
  • Maintain customer records and seasonal statistics to analyze each offering

3) Staffing

  • Hire, train, and schedule office staff including a Front Desk Manager
    • Identify and organize training programs for staff
    • Conduct training for new staff members
    • Place staff in circumstances where they can succeed
  • Management and professionalism
  • Plans, organizes, assigns and reviews work of office staff
  • Delegate and coordinate work tasks
  • Motivator, mentor, and coach

4) General

  • Evaluate, design and implement existing procedures
  • Monitor office usage of supplies and reorder as needed
  • Screen and route incoming calls and messages when necessary
  • Create and maintain databases
  • Background in sailing and education strongly preferred
  • Experience in social media
  • Seasonal hours are demanding and expected
    • From May thru September a six day work week is required
