BISA is implementing a collaborative fisheries project in Odisha with WorldFish, Malaysia and funded by One CGIAR Agroecology Initiative. WorldFish is an international, nonprofit research organization with headquarters in Penang, Malaysia, and offices in Asia, Africa, and the Pacific. The positions will be based at Odisha location.

The major activities of this position include:

  • Prepare of Work Plan of the Work Package 2 of the RAqFS initiative in India in consultation with various stakeholder including FARD Department, Government of Odisha.
  • Prepare the modalities of implementation of various aquaculture activities under the Work Plan 2 including hatchery, nursery and grow-out farm production for various species including IMC, GIFT Tilapia, Pangasius, Catfish, Amur Carp, Scampi, Mola/SIS, etc, intensive farming technologies such as cage culture, biofloc system, RAS, IPRS etc.
  • Lead implementation of the work plan and achieve the targets in time-bound manner.
  • Provide technical advisory support the FARD Department, Odisha to implement the Odisha Fisheries Master Plan – 2030.
  • Liaise with various field level stakeholders such as District Collectors, technical & administrative officers of the FARD and other convergence Departments in Odisha including Director of Fisheries, Fishermen cooperatives, SHGs, water user groups, pani panchayats, various associations (farmer, hatchery, exporters, feed manufacturers, input suppliers, fish traders etc), local institutes such as CIFA, CIFRI, CIFT, OUAT, KISS, KIIT, NGOs (MSSRF, Pradhan, Gramotthan etc) and civil society organisations for efficient and effective scaling of the activities.
  • Coordinate with Deputy Director of Fisheries of various Zones and District Fisheries Officers of the Department for smooth and timely implementation of the project activities.
  • Prepare training manuals and other extension materials and distribute it to the stakeholders on timely basis.
  • Prepare comprehensive training calendar and conduct regular trainings to stakeholders as per the plan.
  • Liaise with Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) team of WorldFish and align the field activities to MEL objectives and priorities.
  • Liaise with the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion team of WorldFish and align the field activities to GESI priorities.
  • Prepare the Quarterly and Annual Project Progress Reports and any other reports as desired by the Program Leader.
  • Perform any other official duties as and when necessary, as per the guidance of the WorldFish Lead – India.

We are seeking candidates with the following academic qualifications, experience, skills and attitudes:

  • Master of Fisheries Science or Master in Agriculture Science / Life Sciences / Zoology / Oceanography is essential.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant field work experience in Fisheries/Agriculture related development projects of Government, NGO or Private Sector.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of aquaculture systems, open-water fisheries, fish markets, extension programs is essential.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in working with staff at all levels, including field staff; works well in teams; able to motivate others.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in working with Government partners, beneficiaries and stakeholders at all levels, including the ability to explain complex things in simply way.
  • Possess a keen interest to work with communities.
  • Excellent fluency in written and oral English is essential. Working knowledge in Hindi or Odia is advantageous.
  • Must possess soft key qualities like creative thinking, communication, team work, and client orientation.
  • The position is for an initial fixed-term contract of 1 year, after which further employment is subject to performance and the continued availability of funds. BISA offers an attractive remuneration package, with a range of benefits including health insurance.
