o you have experience of providing farming and conservation advice? We’re looking to recruit a Farm Advisor to join our Agriculture and Land Management Team, who will focus on helping farmers to protect water quality and make the farm businesses more sustainable, driving forward our programme to improve and protect the Ballinderry and Lough Neagh’s western-shore rivers.
Working as part of the Trust’s Agriculture & Land Management Team based near Cookstown, the successful candidate will work across a variety of projects, designed to encourage, and support landowners to adopt changes in agricultural and land management practices, intended to bring about improved water quality and freshwater habitats at a catchment-scale, whilst also benefiting farm businesses.
The post-holder will undertake one-to-one farm visits, working with landowners to identify ways to reduce the risk and impact of diffuse and point-source water pollution from agriculture. This will be done through the production of bespoke Water Environment Management Plans and delivery of capital intervention works through the Trust’s Water-friendly Farming Scheme.
The post-holder will also aim to raise awareness, improve understanding and acceptance amongst farmers and land managers of diffuse and point-source pollution from agriculture and its impact on water quality and the wider water environment.
Engagement with farmers in targeted priority areas of the Ballinderry River catchment and western-shore rivers of Lough Neagh will seek to create, through a voluntary approach, a sense of ownership and achievement within the farming community in relation to improving water quality and water dependant species and habitats in the catchments across the Trust’s operational area.
This is an opportunity to be at the heart of a growing, dynamic, and enthusiastic team and your role will be essential to the growth and development of the Trust to make a real difference to the environment.
