ERM South Africa is looking for an experienced and qualified climate change professional to provide technical skills and support to the sustainability and climate change practice through the management and delivery of carbon footprints and Green House Gases accounting studies, carbon mitigation strategy, and broader sustainability strategy development.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The ideal candidate will be required to provide technical skills and support to the sustainability and climate change practice through the management and delivery of carbon footprints and Green House Gases accounting studies, carbon mitigation strategy, and broader sustainability strategy development.

The successful candidate will also be expected to assist in the development of the climate change practice within ERM. This will include client liaison, business development, driving sales for climate change and sustainable business practice areas, proposal compilation, staff mentorship, training, and development of technical processes and procedures.

You will work directly with clients to effect change and implement sound carbon reduction measures through technical and management change and be able to interact with the regulatory Authorities. The incumbent must be comfortable in working with clients in a workshop environment and deliver compelling presentations and reports.

The ideal person must be able to work independently, flexibly and organise their own workload to deliver projects on time and to clients’ expectations. He/she must be able to travel throughout South Africa and Africa as required to clients’ facilities.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of six years practical experience delivering climate change and sustainability related projects, with experience across a number of the following areas:

  • Greenhouse gas, energy and water accounting;

  • Carbon Disclosure Project / Water Disclosure Project;

  • Greenhouse gas mitigation / resource efficiency assessments;

  • Marginal Abatement Costs Curves;

  • Target setting; and

  • Climate change strategy and policy development.

Working experience in several industrial sectors as well as with Government Authorities (i.e. Department of Energy, Department of Environmental Affairs), and preferably at least two years’ consultancy experience.

 

Confident in their technical skills, relevant regulatory knowledge and hands on ability to work with clients on the development of carbon mitigation strategies and compliance related activities in accordance with upcoming climate change regulations in South Africa. Ability to lead on business development activities associated with the evolving climate change regulatory environment in South Africa.

 

An excellent communicator working with client’s, engineers and senior management alike.

 

An Engineering or Economic degree and any other academic qualifications would be desirable, combined with practical ability to work on integrated solutions relating to climate change, energy efficiency and sustainability.
