Job description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual to lead an exciting new project, working with external and internal stakeholders at a local level.

The Till and Tweed Priority Catchment (PC) Project, is currently one of only ten proposed ‘pilot’ catchments across England, that will be used to test and develop innovative solutions to abstraction issues. The purpose of these catchments is outlined in the recently published Defra Abstraction Plan.

Your role in leading this project will be to bring together the key stakeholders and abstractors to fully understand their needs, and to define the environmental challenges in the Till and Tweed PC. You will encourage partners to work together to co-develop a list of potential solutions to address water demand and unsustainable abstraction issues.

You will be based in Newcastle, but you will need to travel regularly to the Till and Tweed catchment
Supported by our national colleagues, you will decide what actions and solutions can be tested within the catchment and, where appropriate, support their implementation.

This is a rare opportunity to lead a project that, through the successes or failures of various approaches, will influence the reform and modernisation of our Water Resources regulation.

The team

You’ll join the Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) team, containing specialists in water quality, water resources and river basin planning. Our friendly and supportive team facilitate integrated actions to benefit people and wildlife. We work with internal and external partners to collate, analyse and share data, providing the environmental evidence to inform our area’s priorities.

You’ll also work closely with NE Area Environment Programme and technical teams to deliver integrated projects within the catchment.
