Eawag, the Swiss Federal Institute of Aquatic Science and Technology, is an internationally networked aquatic research institute within the ETH Domain (Swiss Federal Institutes of Technology). Eawag conducts research, education and expert consulting to achieve the dual goals of meeting direct human needs for water and maintaining the function and integrity of aquatic ecosystems.

The Department of Water Resources & Drinking Water (W+T) at Eawag in Dübendorf is looking for a Scientist (80%) to establish and manage the Swiss Groundwater Network

The goal of the position is to collaborate with groundwater researchers of Eawag and its partners to create and coordinate the Swiss Groundwater Network (SGNet). The primary goal of the SGNet is to bundle, promote and streamline groundwater research within Switzerland to anchor groundwater as theme and make the network operational. Collaborations with practice are crucial. The SGNet will be a platform to enhance visibility of the groundwater theme and to be a source of information for academia, consultants, regulators, students as well as the general public.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in developing an outline for a cooperative research project and a viable business model for the SGNet after the initial three-year period. The network will have strong links to associated disciplines such as surface water hydrology, soil sciences, ecology, engineering and social sciences.

The successful candidate should have a higher university degree in one of the following fields: hy-drogeology, groundwater related environmental science or engineering. The candidate is required to have excellent management and communication skills. Active collaboration and coordination of projects and infrastructure is expected. Proficiency in English and fluency in German are essential. Knowledge in French would be an asset.

The position is available for three years. The preferred starting date is 1 December 2019. The position is based at Eawag in Dübendorf, supervised by Prof. Dr Mario Schirmer.
