Water Resources Engineering/Hydrologist

RTI International

Washington, DC, US

Job Description

RTI is seeking a native Spanish speaker with demonstrated skills in water resources management.   The position requires a proven ability to apply hydrologic analysis and modeling techniques to a broad range of emerging water resources problems including climate change adaptation, development of ecological flow regimes, calculation of reservoir storage-yield-reliability curves, quantification of the impact of extreme climate events on stream flows, and characterization of interactions between groundwater and surface water.  Candidates should have prior experience working with advanced geographic information system (GIS) and related spatial analysis tools.  Experience in identifying and utilizing remote sensing data is essential.  Candidates should also possess a broad understanding of watershed processes, particularly as they relate to the impact of land-cover on the timing and magnitude of surface water flows.  Knowledge of operating characteristics of key water management infrastructure, including water treatment plants and storage systems, is highly desirable.

The successful candidate will be expected to manage projects within budget and schedule requirements.  Candidates should have an established track record in assembling and guiding multi-disciplinary teams of researchers.  Prior experience developing projects from the concept stage through preparation of final proposal is necessary.

The position will be located in Washington, D.C. and will require extensive international travel, particularly to Latin America.  Prior experience working with international development banks is highly desirable.  Candidates will be expected to work collaboratively with international research institutes, academic institutions, and global non-governmental organizations (NGOs).

This position offers significant opportunity for advancement.  The successful candidate will work closely and directly with several key clients and will have the opportunity to contribute to the global growth of RTI’s integrated watershed resource management (IWRM) practice.

  • Master’s Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering, Hydrology, or related discipline with at least 9 years of experience.
  • Fluency in Spanish is a necessary prerequisite for this position.  Fluency in Portuguese is highly desirable.
  • The successful candidate will also have at least 5 years of experience managing large, complex projects.
