Role: Digital Monitoring & Mapping Project Manager, WASH sector

Timing & Duration: Position is for a limited term of 1 year and starts in early JAN 2023.

Level: Entry to Mid-Level (prefer minimally 2-3 years of experience)  

Job Design: Program Quality – 65%, Resource Development – 25%, Technical Branding – 10%

Required Experience: Bachelor’s degree or 8 years of equivalent work experience. In addition, a preference for 2-3 years of related work experience. Strong career interest in the WASH sector (Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene). Work experience should include at least 1 year of previous project management and/or leadership experience. Proficiency with ArcGIS, Microsoft Excel, and Power BI.

Preferred Experience: Bi-lingual (e.g. French/Spanish), multi-cultural experience, mWater, SAS, SPSS, R, basic programming languages (e.g. JavaScript, HTML/CSS, SQL, VBA), and Adobe Illustrator.

02 The Job One strategic goal of the WASH program is to demonstrate sustainable impact with a commitment to becoming a global leader in WASH monitoring practices. These monitoring efforts not only enable World Vision to make more effective programming decisions but also improve engagement with other stakeholders in the WASH sector to mobilize additional financing for WASH services.

In response to this commitment, a baseline assessment was conducted with nearly 500 WASH staff members across the partnership. This survey identified two key areas to focus on to strengthen World Vision’s WASH monitoring practices, with 84% of respondents reporting challenges related to these areas: (1) accelerate the use of digital monitoring and (2) implement a capacity-building plan for staff on WASH monitoring tools and practices.

As the scale and use of digital monitoring grow, our efforts to support this digital transformation must grow as well to ensure that the data collected is of the highest quality and that it can be transformed into insights and action. Additionally, with the availability of this data, the demand for creating mapping tools and dashboards to leverage these insights has increased as well. 

03 What success looks like (1) Maintain the World Vision WASH mWater hub and support the daily management of the customized configuration. (2) Support staff capacity-building efforts in mWater through the creation and facilitation of training combined with troubleshooting support. (3) Map WASH assets using GIS to support programming decisions, proposal development, and donor reporting. (4) Conduct desk audits of data in mWater to assess data completeness and correctness. (5) Champion processes and tools pertaining to monitoring practices and reporting standardization to drive programming decisions toward better effectiveness.
