Professorship (W3) in the field of Water Infrastructure Management

The successful candidate will be engaged in a teaching and research function at the School of Civil Engineering, representing sanitary engineering with a focus on water infrastructure. Applicants need to have a clear research focus, evidenced by national and international research collaboration, as well as relevant publications in national and international journals, e.g. in the area of flexible adaptation or maintenance of water treatment infrastructure systems. The successful candidate should have long-term theoretical and practical experience in the analysis and evaluation of water supply and wastewater management systems. Knowledge of at least one of the following fields will be considered an asset:
- Resilience of water infrastructure at network level (water/wastewater) or catchment area level,
- Modelling material flows and energy demand in water systems, linking to energy infrastructure with a view to increasing efficiency,
- Digitalization in the area of centralized/semi-centralized/decentralized water infrastructure (modelling, process design, detailed planning, integration into BIM systems),
- Flexible water infrastructure system design, particularly with regard to dynamic developments in megacities,
- Asset management in water supply and wastewater management.
There will be good opportunities for collaboration in the above areas at the School of Civil Engineering, particularly with the Professor of Digital and Autonomous Construction, a new position that is also being advertised. The successful candidate will be expected to develop collaboration outside the School of Civil Engineering. Applicants will be required to teach in both German and English, predominantly in Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes at the School of Civil Engineering. They will contribute to building the profile of the courses offered by TUHH by means of innovative teaching methods. The successful candidate will coordinate the courses they are to teach both internally and with colleagues at higher education institutions in Hamburg. Applicants should have experience in attracting and carrying out research funded by third parties. An ability and readiness to engage creatively in developing the focal area of Green Technologies and strengthening the profile of civil engineering at TUHH are core requirements for this role. The position is to be filled as soon as possible.
