Local recruitment: Director of Communications and Advocacy

The Rivers Trust

United Kingdom 🇬🇧

Home-based/Remote

he Rivers Trust is a leading environmental charity and the umbrella body of The Rivers Trust movement. Our vision is for wild, healthy, natural rivers, valued by all. We are at a critical point in our history as we expand to deliver projects to protect and replenish this critical part of the natural environment, and our research and expertise is now needed more urgently than ever as water supply and quality move up the public agenda.

Following the departure of the previous postholder to take up a global water policy role, we are looking for a Directory of Communications and Advocacy to join our Senior Management Team and represent ourselves and our 60 member trusts in the UK and Ireland. You will be working with a wide range of external stakeholders including government ministers, media outlets, corporate partners and donors, and leading the development of a dynamic team.

People management and project skills, a strong commitment to the restoration of the water environment and a good understanding of wider environmental issues are all essential, as well as a knowledge of UK environmental NGOs, government agencies and politics. The ability to communicate, influence and take a strategic approach on our behalf is also vital to what is a pivotal role with the opportunity to make a huge personal impact.

We are a welcoming and supportive organisation, and are keen to receive applications from all groups, communities and personal circumstances.. This is a full-time home-based role with scope to work flexible hours, and you could be based anywhere in the country (though the ability to travel nationwide for meetings and events, particularly in the London area, is necessary.)

You can find out more about the work we do on our website and in our most recent annual review.

If, after reading it, you have any questions about the role itself or making an application, please contact our CEO [email protected] in the first instance – all enquiries will be treated confidentially.
