The Department for Environment and Water (DEW) invests in South Australia’s future social, environmental and economic prosperity and well-being. Critical to its success is the Water and River Murray Division, which drives priorities with a focus on the use, management and conservation of the state’s water resources. An opportunity now exists to lead the Division’s Water Science and Monitoring Branch and take on a strategic role that makes a real and positive difference to the lives of all South Australians and the broader environment and economy.
Job Description:
Reporting directly to the Executive Director, Water and River Murray, you will lead the formation, implementation and communication of water science and monitoring programs that underpin water resources policy, planning and management. As a leader in your field, you will oversee the development and quality of the department’s water science, analyse technical research and play an imperative role converting science into policy and on-ground action. Overseeing a diverse technical-based team of up to 70 staff, you will provide supportive leadership to drive performance that is aligned to the department’s strategic priorities. Stakeholder management will be at the forefront of what you do, building partnerships with key stakeholders across the private and public sector to develop, deliver and co-design programs and projects and communicate results.
Degree qualified and an experienced leader in water or natural resource management, you will be highly skilled in identifying and delivering strategic and operational outcomes in a sensitive environment. A motivational people leader, you will have proven success in building capability and capacity across a diverse workforce. Demonstrated capability in cultivating positive and collaborative relationships with both internal and external stakeholders to drive policy change, you will be a natural influencer and have the confidence to negotiate and hold the line when needed. Prior experience in water policy development and science management will be highly desirable.
