This opportunity is a hands-on position that will work on impactful habitat restoration projects in the Hudson Valley with a focus on riparian, riverine and estuarine restoration.

Duties & Responsibilities
We are seeking a Project Manager that will help create and manage project plans related to habitat restoration, fish passage, and dam removal throughout the Hudson River Valley. This work includes budget and grant management, creating project timelines, working with vendors and external partners, managing deadlines, and all other project details. This role will also support the team with sampling protocols, monitoring activities, scientific data, and occasional field work. The Project Manager will be required to learn the field sampling methods.
Specific duties and responsibilities include:
- Manage projects from conception through completion, including:
- Work with the Habitat Restoration team to identify new opportunities;
- Collaborate with the Development team on fundraising proposals;
- Help create project timelines and schedules;
- Coordinate key field work including sampling and monitoring;
- Work with vendors and other external partners,
- Track project deadlines and deliverables,
- Manage project and grant budgets, including grant reporting requirements,
- Write reports directly related to restoration projects;
- Plan, organize, and speak at meetings and events;
- Track financial expenditures, including data entry, management and reporting;
- Work with Senior Grants Manager to ensure all grant reporting requirements are fulfilled;
- Assist in field work at times and become familiar with sampling and monitoring protocols;
- Communicate successful restoration activities to a wide range of audiences;
- Research and review literature related to the team’s work;
- Work with Senior Habitat Restoration Manager on annual department budget, in consultation with Vice President of Boat and Patrol; and
- Support the team to achieve key objectives.

- A minimum of 3 years of related experience, ideally within an environmental nonprofit;
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent work experience) in a related field of study, including: environmental or ecological disciplines, project management, business, grant management, etc.;
- Budget management and tracking experience, Quickbooks experience a plus;
- Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to present to and engage large audiences;
- Exceptional writing and editing skills, with experience in grant writing;
- Excellent computer skills including the use of databases, spreadsheets (Excel required), word processing, and story mapping, etc;
- Additional technical skills in spatial mapping software (ArcGIS), and statistical programming would be beneficial;
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse groups of people;
- Ability to be entrepreneurial, self-motivated, results oriented, able to manage multiple projects at once, change gears at a moment’s notice, and prioritize projects;
- Willingness to learn;
- Passionate environmentalist with an interest in conservation-related issues;
- A strong commitment to the mission, vision, values and goals of Riverkeeper, and a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and justice;
- Familiarity with the Hudson Valley and ability to travel throughout (i.e. will need access to a car);
- Willingness to work outside in the field on occasion, at times in difficult conditions;
- Fully vaccinated for Covid-19.
Location
Riverkeeper is based in Ossining, New York, with an additional office in Kingston, NY. This position will be located in the Ossining office, but will have a lot of flexibility to have a hybrid (in-office, work from home, and occasional field work) schedule.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a band 6 position. Compensation is commensurate with experience ranging from $60-70K. This position is full time (40 hours/week) and must be flexible to work some nights and occasional weekends.
