Job description
The Integrated Water Management Framework (IWMF) programme seeks to better integrate the planning of water across disciplines. This will support the Environment Agency’s ambition to improve the quality of our water environment. You will need good communication and people skills with an ability to build rapport. You will influence and persuade key internal and external stakeholders, including key Government Departments, to gain their buy-in.
The IWMF programme is exploring the environmental benefits of integrated delivery. We work with partners from across the water sector to challenge and improve the way water is planned and managed. The successful candidate’s primary role will be linking the programme with others, maximising opportunities to identify and test new delivery mechanisms and approaches. It would be beneficial, but not essential, for applicants to have technical knowledge of water planning legislation and an understanding of existing industry ways of working.
This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in influencing the Environment Agency’s developing national approach to integrated water management. It provides the chance to work with a range of colleagues and partners (Defra Group and beyond) to improve the way we plan for the water environment.
The team
Our team works with colleagues from across the four Environment Agency operational areas within the OxCam Arc. In addition to Environment Agency national teams, Defra Group colleagues, and local stakeholders. We share skills and learning, maximising opportunities to test and trial new approaches, tools, and mechanisms. We seek to change the way that growth, our natural capital assets, and natural resources are planned for and protected for future generations.
Experience/skills required
We are looking for a proactive, motivated self-starter, with a flexible attitude. You will need to be organised and thrive in a fast-changing environment.
Required skills/ experience/ knowledge:
•An understanding of the principles set out in the 25 Year Environment Plan.
•Experience using stakeholder networks to achieve results.
•The ability to think creatively to solve complex problems.
•The ability to identify opportunities and a willingness to test and trial new approaches.
•The ability to work autonomously, to lead and deliver to tight and changeable deadlines.
•An understanding of the Defra Group, it’s delivery bodies and the structure of the wider water sector.
•The ability to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues, customers, and partners – working effectively in a ‘virtual team’.
Desirable knowledge:
•An understanding of water management (quality, river basin, resource and flood) planning processes and now these can be used to deliver positive outcomes.
