The researcher will develop and solve mathematical models of bio-electrochemical systems (BES) applied to water pollution abatement and soil remediation. The model will simulate the processes, and the related phenomena, such as transport of species under electric field, surface-solution interaction, kinetics of chemical, electrochemical, biological and bioelectrochemical processes. The model will be solved with a suitable finite elements scheme in 2D and 3D. The researcher will interact with teams involved in experimental activities: from experimental data, model parameters will be obtained, and the model predictions will be validated. The model will assist the development of functional fuel cell designs, with respect for example to electrode geometry and spacing, and the in-field application, with a quantitative interpretation of the effect of the process parameters and conditions
