Credit Valley Conservation is one of Ontario’s 36 conservation authorities dedicated to protecting, restoring and enhancing our local natural environment. Summary of Functions
The position will support the Water and Climate Change Science team with a study of road salt use at our Head Office parking lot. This is a two-year study, entering its second year, funded by the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks and in partnership with the Sustainable Technologies Evaluation Program. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effectiveness of road salting best management practices in terms of achieving a high level of service and efficiently managing road salt use in parking lots.
- Currently pursuing or have completed post-secondary education in environmental sciences/studies/engineering or a related discipline
- Some experience conducting independent research in environmental sciences
- Experience with analysis of environmental monitoring data (for example, water quality time series data)
- Experience with writing clear and succinct technical reports
- Experience with environmental monitoring equipment including conductivity sensors would be an asset
- Willingness and ability to work outdoors in inclement weather
- Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Some knowledge of urban water quality concerns and concepts particularly around the use of road salt
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Summary of Major Tasks
- Regularly maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot and download data from monitoring equipment including conductivity sensors, winter maintenance cameras and pavement friction sensors
- Prepare monitoring equipment to capture data from winter weather events
- Conduct data analysis
- Summarize data analysis results in final report
- Share regular updates on progress with the team
