Since its inception in 1972, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has been the global authority that sets the environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment.
UNEP’s mission is to provide leadership and encourage partnership in caring for the environment by inspiring, informing, and enabling nations and peoples to improve their quality of life without compromising that of future generations.
Headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, UNEP works through its divisions as well as regional, liaison and out-posted offices and a growing network of collaborating centres of excellence.
In 2007, the United Nations (UN) system embarked on a journey to integrate environmental sustainability in its facilities and operations. Since then, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) annually collects and analyses the information provided by UN system entities on their environmental impacts and publishes this data in the “Greening the Blue Report: the UN system’s environmental footprint and efforts to reduce it”.
- Collect data from UN entities about environmental footprint of UN data centres
- Manage and analyze big amounts of data to visualize the impacts of UN data centres using Python for example)
- Produce a report from the analysis
- Communicate about the results
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information
Systems, Information Management, Data Science, journalism, and/or related field.
Experience: 0 – 3 years
English, Level: Fluent, Required
