Job Description

  • Support and contribute to develop the existing Environmental Health (EH) /WASH programme.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to the EH staff and partners on all water, sanitation and hygiene promotion related issues, to ensure quality, cost-effectiveness, sustainability and environmental soundness in their projects’ implementation.
  • Design new and arrange repairs of existing water supply systems as, borewells, tanks, pumps, pipe networks and generators.
  • Asses the health risks in the overall WASH situation, and design and plan water supply systems to improve the situation in collaboration with relevant actors.
  • Negotiate access to identify suitable natural water sources with relevant stakeholders while ensuring adherence to the Do no harm principle.
  • Facilitate participatory and community-based approaches for the EH programme  
  • Guide and supervise technical and support staff and ensure that their training needs are met.
  • Develop hygiene educational material for both staff and affected or displaced people.
  • Contribute to the budgeting process and give inputs to the financial management of the programme on technical areas.
  • Provide weekly reports and inputs to the Emergency WASH Sector Coordination forums on progress and results of interventions and activities.
  • Review of the design and planning, formulation, implementing, monitoring and evaluation and quality assurance of the WASH programme.
  • Ensure overall efficiency and effectiveness of the programme management, relevance and value of money of the investments, delivery and accomplishment of programme goals and objectives
  • Oversee compliance with all sanitation practices, including waste management.
  • Provide input to the planning of activities in response to findings; mobilize members of the communities to take ownership of improved hygiene practices and environment. 


  • Having master’s degree in civil, Water, sanitation, environmental engineering; or any other relevant field of study.
  • Having minimum 3 years relevant work experience in the WASH sector
  • Experience in implementation of water, sanitation, and hygiene promotion activities.
  • Experience in using software i.e., Watergems, EPANET, MS office, AutoCAD etc.
  • Experience of designing the water supply piped networks using software i.e., Watergems.  
  • working with multiple projects at a time
  • Willingness to travel to project implementation areas.
  • Good knowledge of the social and culture dynamics of the intervention area
  • Having the skills and ability to work within a team
  • Good Written and spoken English and can Speak/understand/write local language
