Some time for pre and post workshop planning/reflection should also be factored in.
Background Concept and Goal:
Aim of the project is the sustainable strengthening of global humanitarian WASH structures, particularly in the area of WASH coordination, capacity development, preparedness and localisation of humanitarian aid using the principles described in the German humanitarian WASH strategy and the complementary experience and expertise of German governmental and non-governmental actors and their partners.
The compendium is a consortium project of the German WASH Network, with funding from the Federal Foreign Office. After the successful creation and release of the Compendium of Sanitation Technologies in Emergencies, the decision was made to explore other areas of WASH with further capacity development compendiums. The second project resulted in a compendium focused on water supply technologies and systems (due to be released in September 2019 after a review process by the WHO). Acting as a companion document to this, plans have now begun to create a compendium that specialises in water supply but with a specific focus on emergency contexts.
The compendium will be designed so as to give an overview of the technology options available during critical planning and design phases; particularly with regards to emergency situations in which time and resources are lacking and conditions far from ideal. Main areas to be covered will include: Source (PoA), Intake, Abstraction, Treatment, Distribution/Transport, User Safety (Treatment at PoU).
All communication and tech sheets should be in English.
Coordination and lines of Communications:
The consultant will report to the Project Coordinator at the arche noVa Headquarters in Dresden, Germany. The Project Coordinator is the line of communication to external WASH network partners and project collaborators.
Qualifications – Required:
- Proven experience in WASH planning and design (particularly for the emergency context)
- Solid analytical skills and writing skills
- Experience in writing documents of this kind
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritise, meet deadlines, and achieve results through collaboration.
